2006 Copacabana at the Birch Recap
October 14th 2006 marked this year’s annual fundraising gala--Copacabana at the Birch! Although there was an unusual chance of rain that day, by 6:00 pm the clouds had cleared and gave way to a beautiful intimate oceanside setting at the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla, California. Here is where miracles took place, as volunteers, friends, sponsors, and business associates of both the Sundt Memorial Foundation and Founder, Jon Sundt gathered to support the very prevalent cause of teens and drug prevention. It was encouraging to see both the familiar and new faces come together to make a positive change for our cause. Amongst an island ambiance, the 250 attendees dined on Brazilian style cuisine and were free to wander amidst the fourteen different silent auction tables at a leisurely and friendly pace. These auction tables, which included such items as art, kids video games and collectables, trips, skin care, memberships, autographed skateboard equipment and jerseys, wine, concert tickets, photography and electronics, provided something for everyone and raised over nearly $30,000 by itself.
But that’s not all. The most memorable part of the night came when Jon Sundt delivered his story followed by inspiring clips from Natural High 3. This is where hearts were personally touched as attendees were given a clear perspective as to SMF’s mission, purpose and need as well as a chance to see Jon’s dream come together in a tangible reality. Sparks ignited as the live auction started, offering luxurious vacation packages, personal services, and even a personal surf and servant session with Jon himself. The Sponsor A School or State Campaign presented guests with yet another opportunity to step up and take action in sponsoring their home state. The live auction and Sponsor a School/State raised $90,000, establishing a successful grand total of $190,000 for the entire night, bringing us one step closer to ensuring that Natural High 3 will be sent to every school in the nation reaching over 31,357,769 students!
