Another School Year Begins

As you break out the freshly sharpened pencils and shiny pink erasers, here are some tips to make the best out of the new school year.  A successful year has many components: grades, teachers, and friends.

Tip 1:  Try new things, make new friends.  Start the semester by expanding your horizons.  Try sitting at a new table for lunch each week for the first few weeks.  This will allow you talk and communicate with new groups of people, who may be useful for homework tips, advice, and experience later on in the year.  Join a new lunch or after school club.  You will meet new people and may find an interest in a new subject.

Tip 2:  Make sure to talk to your teacher(s).  You and your teacher may be thinking different things as the year progresses on.  Be sure to ask questions and discuss your goals for the year with him/her.  A teacher is the best resource you have at school, don?t forget to use it.

Tip 3:  Grades, grades, grades.  By following the first two steps and adding a little organization, those A's and B's will be easy to come by.  Stay organized, and make sure you have a special place in or around your home that is quiet and fit for homework and/or studying.  Keep up the good work!

Natural High 4 Talent Showcase - Gbaja-Biamila Brothers

As Natural High 4 production continues, on to the field rush the Gbaja-Biamila brothers, a pair of inspirational, talented NFL defensive ends.

Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, #94 and defensive end for the Green Bay Packers, is also their all time sack leader, while Akbar Gbaja-Biamila, is a free agent who has played as a defensive end for the Dolphins and the Chargers.   The brothers attended high school in southern California where Akbar played basketball.  He won back-to-back city and state championships during his time there and then made the move to football during his senior year. While Akbar was shooting hoops, Kabeer became a student owner of the nation's first student-run natural food company, Food from the 'Hood'. which provided South Central Los Angeles with high-quality organic produce.

Both brothers reach their natural highs by helping educate people about money.  Kabeer is the coordinator at the local church for Crown Financial Ministries, which teaches people to use Biblical principles to help manage money in a way God would see fit.  Kabeer also helps out with a program named Freedom House which helps families overcome homelessness.  Akbar's natural high is teaching the next generation to be money smart during programs and camps he runs through athletes for education. www.afefoundation.org
