Student Testimonial

"I took the advice of the athletes in Natural High 2 and now I use my natural high (basketball) to stay drug free and solve my problems. Before I saw Natural High 2 I didn't?t have a cool way to stay drug free, like natural highs. I will always keep the words of those great athletes in my mind."

Football Math Test

A football coach walked into the locker room before a game, looked over to his star player and said, "I'm not supposed to let you play since you failed math, but we need you in there. So, what I have to do is ask you a math question, and if you get it right, you can play."

The player agreed, and the coach looked into his eyes intently and asks, "Okay, now concentrate hard and tell me the answer to this. What is two plus two?"

The player thought for a moment and then he answered, "4?"

"Did you say 4?" the coach exclaimed, excited that he got it right.

At that, all the other players on the team began screaming, "Come on coach, give him another chance!"

Healthy Choices for Healthy Kids

With obesity rates and video game popularity rising, students are at risk for making poor health choices.  Making kids aware of and active in healthy lifestyle choices can be difficult. Here is a great website that enables you to talk to your students in a fun and safe way about being healthy at home and in the classroom.  Kids Health in the Classroom also provides a special website for kids, discussion questions, teacher guides, experiments and more to help you and your students live a healthy, happy lifestyle.  The guides and experiments allow kids to get hands on experience and become excited about their health.

Meet Your Teenager on Facebook

An article posted on msnbc.com suggests an upward trend in parents social networking skills.  The article cites a variety of reasons for the recent increase in logging on ranging from checking up on their teens to forming closer relationships.  "I do think it can bring them closer together" by helping parents learn more about their children's interests and friends, says Anastasia Goodstein, author of "Totally Wired: What Teens and Tweens Are Really Doing Online" (St. Martin's Griffin, 2007).

It appears that parents and teens who maintain good offline communication can increase their closeness by using the networking sights.  These kids are not posting anything they wish to hide from their parental units.  The controversy lies on where to draw the line.  It appears that some students may be embarrassed by their parents? presence as a friend on their personalized pages.  "Where it gets tricky is, what's happening on social networking sites is really conversations between teens and their friends. You're not just listening in on your own teen. Suddenly, you are hearing what all their friends are doing as well."  Students use the sites as place to hang out and some may be weary to hang out with their folks.  The article suggests talking to your child ahead of time before requesting to become a friend, to prevent any ill will. Read the full article.
